During my residency at Künstlerhaus Eisenhammer in Schlepzig, Brandenburg, I dealt with traditional crafts in the region and the young people who decide to learn these trades. Otfried Preußler's story about the boy Krabat, which is inspired by motifs from the Sorbian folk tale about a Lusatian apprentice, was my starting point. "Krabats Erben" made some reference to the mill apprentice and gave me the opportunity to tell a modern story about young apprentices in the Spreewald region.
